Description

Open Access: The implications for your research

Dr Miggie Pickton and Nick Dimmock

With the publication of the Finch Report in 2012 and subsequent changes to funder policies, open access to the products of research has moved from a specialist to mainstream interest.
This workshop will describe the growth of the open access movement; the various routes to achieving open access (green, gold etc.); consider issues of cost (including article processing charges (APCs)), quality and copyright; and demonstrate the benefits of open access in terms of potential citation advantage and impact.
In the practical element of the session, attendees will have the chance to search for open access resources and find a journal that offers an open access publishing option.

By the end of this workshop attendees will have the knowledge and skills to:

• Understand funders’ requirements for open access
• Find open access resources appropriate to their research interest
• Identify a journal for a potential open access publication and any cost associated with doing so.

This workshop is open to early career researchers and any student currently registered on a research degree programme at the University of Northampton. Further information is available from Simone Apel (simone.apel@northampton.ac.uk; 01604 893418).
